The Power of Play

Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) is a useful therapy approach for children who are younger and have not matured (particularly for children ages 3-10 years old) to a point where they can confidently and accurately communicate their thoughts, emotions, and experiences.

This specific type of therapy allows their natural language of playing to be utilized in helping the way they communicate what is going on inside them but also process the challenges they are experiencing. Additionally, the play therapy process provides children with a safe and open environment, which assists them in letting down their walls as well as developing confidence in their own ability to address problems they experience.

CCPT is particularly useful in helping children work through challenges with anxiety, depression, and even trauma. Signs of anxiety, depression, and trauma can be noticed when parents become aware of a sudden lasting shift. These lasting shifts can manifest themselves in behavior, personality, and thinking that is out of the norm for the child. For example, when a child has difficulty adjusting to change, they may experience nightmares, lack of confidence, or tantrums. These symptoms and responses are often beyond the child’s ability to regulate. This therapy model is a more experiential approach that focuses on healing rather than traditional talk therapy methods which tend to focus on questions and discussions to facilitate positive change.

Primary Healthcare offers CCPT if you think your child would benefit from this type of therapy.
